"Well, what a turn-up for the books! Looks like a welcoming party. Flowers everywhere, roses, carnations and lilies… I love lilies, though Gary used to say they smell like a funeral parlour. Cards from well-wishers… The house smells nice. Got rid of that stench of piss and puke. Somebody’s done a deep clean while I was away"

The Apple Tree

or Bobi ap Bryn and the Birds of Rhiannon,
written and narrated by Rosalind Buck (c) 2023
Duration roughly 12 minutes

"There were three birds sitting in amongst the branches. As they fluttered from bough to bough, they seemed to twinkle and shine, reflecting the light and splitting it into many colours, like a raindrop or a dragonfly’s wing. The birds sang together in harmony and counterpoint, piping and whistling, their melodies twining in and out of one another as if weaving the weft and warp of a mantle made from music"

Written and performed by Rosalind Buck
(c) 2023
Duration roughly 11 1/2 minutes

"Where am I? I just need to … If I can… Has anyone …. Is there anybody there?
Wind ripples on a puddle, right by my eye, bending the light into little yellow waves; tarmac on my tongue. That lamp-post shouldn’t be so close"

Witchy Special

two witchy stories and a witchy song,
written and performed by Rosalind Buck (c) 2023
Duration roughly 40 minutes

1. Kitty, told by Rosalind Buck
"He had seen her cutting plants at night with a brass sickle. Hemlock, Henbane, Adder’s-tongue, Nightshade, Moonwort and Libbard’s-bane... they must have been!"
2. Baba Yaga's Bubble Bath, told by Grannie Garstleigh
She sat down with a sigh on a stump and started to eat her bit of bread and cheese. Suddenly, she heard someone clearing their throat. It sounded like a whole classroom of children scraping their chairs back.
“I suppose you know you are sitting on my doorstep,” said a voice. It was a voice with boils on it.
3. The Witches are Arriving, performed by Rosalind Buck

Cherry Stones

written and performed by Rosalind Buck (c) 2023
Duration roughly 11 minutes

It gathers itself and begins to swell, drawing sustenance from the earth above, drinking, quenching its ancient thirst. In a slow, drawn-out yawn it pushes at its confines. Downwards, its stiff knees unfolding, rejoicing in the exquisite ecstasy of straightening and unfurling. Upwards, gently but surely, pushing, pushing, stretching its horny hands with infinite patience and perseverance, with unquestioning conviction towards the unseen but undeniable light

"The sky was the colour of tin and a cruel, thin rain fell relentlessly. The vigil of the night had been long and lonely and dawn had brought a chill wind that seemed to blow right through him"
